The world’s last white giraffe has been fitted with a GPS tracker to deter poachers.
Rangers are monitoring the single male’s giraffe’s movements closely on the Kenyan border, the unique colour makes the giraffe stand out dangerously for poachers. 40% of the white giraffe’s population has disappeared and been poached since 1990, and currently, they are the world’s most vulnerable species. White giraffes have this colour due to a rare genetic trait called ‘leucism’ that causes some loss of pigment in their skin.
